How the network grew

We started with a single site. It covered handloading, because that is where our questions were most specific and the easy answers online were least trustworthy. Readers wanted load data that had actually been run, components compared on the bench, and results reported plainly.

As the audience grew, so did the questions, and they pulled in different directions: factory ammunition, optics, firearms, hunting practice, value comparisons, and the stories that come with a life spent outdoors. Rather than stretch one site to cover all of it, we launched a new publication each time a subject deserved its own home. Today there are seven.

Why specialized publications

One large site tends to reward breadth over depth. A reader researching a rangefinder does not need it filed next to venison recipes and rifle history. Focus keeps each publication accountable to a specific audience and a specific kind of testing.

Specialization also keeps our authors honest. When a publication covers one subject closely, its readers know the field and notice when a claim does not hold up. That pressure is good for the work.

Our mission

We publish honest field content: information you can act on, tested by people who use it. We hold respect for wildlife and for hunting tradition as a baseline, not an afterthought. And we treat our readers as capable adults who want the full picture, including the parts a manufacturer would rather leave out.

Ownership and transparency

All seven publications belong to Imlay Unlimited LLC, and we say so openly. There are no hidden parent companies and no undisclosed affiliations. The network is based in Sacramento, California. If you want to know who stands behind a review, the answer is here, in plain sight.
